Becoming an Author
To be honest, I don’t think I am like a stereotypical author who loved books as a child and wrote prose since childhood.
I did get in on the harry potter craze when the books were not all published. When I was younger, most of the books I read purposefully were mostly because I needed to read them for class, or it contained knowledge that I wanted to learn, like Japanese language books.
I had been sporadically writing in journals since college, but I was never consistent.
What made me want to put pen to paper were my children. From the moment they were born, I started thinking about what books to read to them and what purpose the books would serve. When I saw how attentive my daughter was to the pictures, that is when I knew the power that books, particularly children’s books, have.
My current project that I’m working on has a specific purpose of promoting awareness and understanding of a person who doesn’t look like you. I hope that it resonates with children in America and Japan.
